AI agent market cap down almost 50% across January

The market cap of the AI agent industry has reportedly tumbled massively from its January highs amid news of a cheaper, more efficient new model.   According to data collected by cookie.fun, the industry’s market cap, which stood at $10.37 billion at the beginning of the year, has shed more than $4.5 billion since January 6. A 19% slide in the past 24 hours has seen the figure settle — for now — at somewhere in the region of $5.7 billion. Elsewhere, CoinGecko claims that the figure currently sits at a slightly healthier $9.74 billion. However, these figures also point to a 22% decrease in the last 24 hours. Andreessen Horowitz is already spending big on the 2026 midterms

Andreessen Horowitz (a16z), an important Silicon Valley venture capital firm, has announced that it will be “contributing over $23 million in additional funds to Fairshake and its affiliated PACs for the 2026 midterm election cycle.” In the blog post announcing the move, the firm notes that it intends to support “legislators from both sides of the aisle who understand that crypto isn’t red or blue but is critical in ensuring America remains the leader in technology.” Federal Election Commission (FEC) data compiled by OpenSecrets show that partners of a16z have contributed $44 million to the current election cycle. $2.8 trillion Goldman Sachs discloses millions in Bitcoin holdings

In a string of major banks offering exposure to Bitcoin (BTC) through its spot exchange-traded funds (ETFs), one of the latest to hop on the Bitcoin bandwagon is Goldman Sachs (NYSE: GS), which has just unveiled it holds millions in spot Bitcoin ETFs. Specifically, Goldman Sachs reported in its new quarterly filing with the United States Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) that it was holding more than $400 million in spot Bitcoin ETFs, according to the 13F document for the quarter ending June 30, released on August 13. Among others, the major bank has filed new holdings in BlackRock (NYSE: BLK) iShares Bitcoin Trust, valued at $238.6 million, or nearly 7 million shares, with additional positions in Fidelity Bitcoin ETF at $79.5 million, Grayscale Bitcoin Trust at $35.1 million, and Invesco Galaxy Bitcoin ETF at $56.1 million.
